{"id":15938,"date":"2024-01-30T13:26:40","date_gmt":"2024-01-30T13:26:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/fannahpalmer.com\/?p=15938"},"modified":"2024-04-11T06:48:52","modified_gmt":"2024-04-11T06:48:52","slug":"waarom-lezen-we-in-het-engels","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/fannahpalmer.com\/en\/waarom-lezen-we-in-het-engels\/","title":{"rendered":"Why do we read in English?"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"201\" src=\"https:\/\/fannahpalmer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/perduslaa.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-15939\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On January 25, I participated in the program<a href=\"https:\/\/slaa.nl\/programma\/waarom-lezen-we-in-het-engels\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/slaa.nl\/programma\/waarom-lezen-we-in-het-engels\/\">Why do we read in English?<\/a>\u2019, organized by SLAA (Foundation for Literary Activities in Amsterdam) and taking place at Perdu, Amsterdam.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Prior to this evening, I translated the poem \u2018Intifada Incantation\u2019 by the poet June Jordan: <a href=\"https:\/\/slaa.nl\/online-lezen\/vertaalslam-intifada-incantation\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/slaa.nl\/online-lezen\/vertaalslam-intifada-incantation\/\">the (Dutch) translation can be found here<\/a>. Translator Jenny Mijnhijmer translated the same poem, and both of us recited in on January 25, without having read each others' translation beforehand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After reading the poems, we had a conversation with the authors Nikki Dekker and Pelumi Adejumi, which was moderated by publisher and writer Elte Rauch.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Op 25 januari deed ik mee aan het programma &#8216;Waarom lezen we in het Engels?&#8216;, dat werd georganiseerd door SLAA (Stichting Literaire Activiteiten Amsterdam) en plaatsvond in Perdu, Amsterdam.
